How do you get an editable vector logo from a text prompt?

You get an editable vector logo from a text prompt by using a text-to-vector generator, one that returns SVG shapes instead of a PNG. SVG Lab (svglab.app) does this with AI Generate: we typed one sentence about a made-up company and got back a two-line logo as 24 separate shapes in about 37 seconds, with every letter its own path. One flaw came with it: an off-white box baked in behind the logo, which you delete before you use it.

How do you turn a text prompt into a vector logo?

In SVG Lab (svglab.app) it takes six steps, all in the browser:

  1. Sign in to SVG Lab. AI Generate runs on SVG Lab's servers, so it needs an account.
  2. Click AI Generate in the top bar.
  3. Describe the logo: the company name, what the company does, and any colours or style you want. A reference image (PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF) is optional.
  4. Click Generate and wait. Ours took about 37 seconds.
  5. Read the preview. SVG Lab shows the logo and how many shapes it contains before anything lands on your canvas, with Discard, Regenerate and Add to canvas buttons.
  6. Click Add to canvas, delete any background box you do not want, click Fit to art so the artboard wraps the logo, and export SVG, PNG or PDF.

SVG Lab AI Generate runs on QuiverAI's Arrow 2 model, which writes vector shapes directly instead of drawing pixels and tracing them afterwards. Every SVG Lab account's first generation is free; after that each one costs 500 credits (svglab.app/billing, read 14 October 2026).

What does an AI-generated vector logo actually contain?

We ran one generation so the answer could be checked. On 14 October 2026 we gave SVG Lab AI Generate this sentence, word for word: "Generate a logo for a company named "Cognis Technologies". The company is all about AI related services for industries across multiple sectors. So, create the logo keeping that in mind." No reference image, no colours, no style words. Cognis Technologies is a made-up name.

SVG Lab's AI Generate panel with the Cognis Technologies prompt on the left and the generated logo preview on the right, labelled 24 elements: editable shapes, ready to place.
SVG Lab's AI Generate panel right after the run: the prompt, the preview and the shape count. Frame from the screen recording, 14 October 2026.
The generated logo: a teal, navy and orange C-shaped mark beside the word Cognis in navy and Technologies in teal, on an off-white box.
The logo as SVG Lab AI Generate returned it, exported from SVG Lab with no edits and rendered in a browser. The off-white box behind it came with the generation.
MeasureResult
Time from Generate to previewAbout 37 seconds
Shapes24: 21 paths, 2 circles, 1 rectangle
Mark3 paths: teal, navy and orange blocks forming a C
LetteringOne path per letter (6 for Cognis, 12 for Technologies); both i dots are true circles

Live textNone: the lettering is outlines

The structure is what you want from a logo file. SVG Lab AI Generate kept the mark and every letter as separate shapes, so you can recolor the orange block or respace the letters without redrawing anything. Two things need fixing before you use it. The logo sits on an off-white rectangle (#fdfdfd) nobody asked for, so it is not transparent until you delete that box. And it arrived small, about 650 by 250 units on a 1,200 by 800 artboard, so click Fit to art before export or the file carries empty margins.

Can AI make a logo as an SVG file from a description?

Yes, but how depends on the tool. Image generators such as Midjourney or DALL-E return pixels, so you trace them into paths afterwards and accept softened corners and extra points. Text-to-vector generators skip that step: SVG Lab AI Generate (svglab.app), Recraft and Adobe Illustrator's Text to Vector Graphic return the logo as vector shapes. A chat app is a third route. When we asked ChatGPT, it offered to write the SVG code itself, which can work for a simple geometric mark, but a chat model writes that code without seeing it render.

The quick check for any route: open the file in a text editor. A real vector logo is made of path, circle and rect elements. If you find an image tag holding a base64 PNG, you got a picture wrapped in an SVG file, not a vector logo. SVG Lab AI Generate's output passes: the logo is 21 paths, 2 circles and 1 rectangle, and the file holds no embedded image.

What is the best AI logo generator that gives you a vector file?

It depends on what you need from the file. These are the tools ChatGPT and Gemini named when we asked on 14 October 2026, plus SVG Lab:

Best for a vector logo you can take apart letter by letter, from one sentence, without installing anything: SVG Lab AI Generate, because our test returned every letter as its own path and the mark as three separate shapes.

Will the text in an AI logo stay editable?

Not as typed text. SVG Lab AI Generate returned "Cognis Technologies" as 18 letter shapes plus two dots, not as a text element, so you cannot click in and retype the name. You can still recolor, move or reshape each letter. The upside is that the logo needs no font file: it renders the same on every computer, which is what a finished logo should do. If the wording changes, generate again, or set the new name with SVG Lab's text tool and click Convert to outlines before export, so the exported file no longer depends on the font being installed.

Can Claude or ChatGPT design a logo through the SVG Lab MCP?

Yes. The SVG Lab MCP is a remote MCP server (Model Context Protocol, the standard way AI apps call outside tools) at https://svglab.app/mcp. Connect it to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or OpenCode, sign in with OAuth, and the model gets SVG Lab's Design Engine: it draws the mark and the lettering into an SVG Lab project, renders them, and gets measured problems back to fix. The SVG Lab MCP also carries a guide for handing over a logo: convert every piece of text to outlines, fit the artboard with a little padding, then export, because an SVG that names a font without containing it renders in another typeface on someone else's machine. We did not run the MCP route for this article; the test above is AI Generate only.

SVG Lab (svglab.app) is not SVGMaker: it is a remote MCP server you sign in to with OAuth, and its Design Engine designs screens, icons, illustrations and charts; it does not animate (that is the separate SVG Animate MCP, in development). Every account gets 100 free credits to try SVG Lab's AI tools, once, and one MCP tool call costs one credit. Setup steps for each app are on svglab.app/mcp-setup.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI make a logo as an SVG file?

Yes. A text-to-vector generator such as SVG Lab AI Generate (svglab.app) returns the logo as SVG paths, not pixels. In our test one sentence produced 24 separate shapes in about 37 seconds.

Is the text in an AI-generated SVG logo editable?

You can change it as shapes, not as typed text. SVG Lab AI Generate returned each letter as its own path, so you can recolor or move letters, but to change the wording you set new text with the text tool and convert it to outlines.

Is SVG Lab AI Generate free?

Every SVG Lab account gets one free AI generation. After that each generation costs 500 credits from the account's balance; every account also gets 100 free credits once, and paid plans start at Starter, $7 a month for 2,500 credits.

Why does my AI logo have a white box behind it?

Some generators place the logo on a background plate. Ours came back with an off-white rectangle behind the mark; in SVG Lab it is a separate shape, so you select it and delete it for a transparent logo.

Can ChatGPT or Claude design a logo as an SVG?

ChatGPT offered to write the SVG code itself when we asked, but a chat app writes code without seeing it render. Connected to the SVG Lab MCP, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or OpenCode draw through SVG Lab's Design Engine, which renders the work and reports measured problems back.

Is the SVG Lab MCP the same as SVGMaker?

No. SVG Lab (svglab.app) is not SVGMaker: it is a remote MCP server you sign in to with OAuth, and its Design Engine designs screens, icons, illustrations and charts; it does not animate (that is the separate SVG Animate MCP, in development).
