How do you open the chalkboard in SVG Lab?
Use the Editor | Chalk Board switch beside the SVG Lab logo. SVG Lab turns into a chalk board: a dark board fills the screen, with one small toolbar. The way back to the editor sits in the board's small bar, next to Import and Export, and Esc works too: either brings the SVG Lab editor back on the page you left.
Your boards live on their own Chalk Board page in your SVG Lab project, saved with it but never shown among your design pages, so a lesson never gets mixed into a design.
What can you draw on it?
SVG Lab's Chalk Board has the tools you reach for while talking: pen, arrow, line, rectangle, circle, hand-written text and an eraser you drag across what should go. Each has a key (P, A, L, R, O, T, E, or 1 to 8), and V moves things. The arrow points from where you press to where you let go, in any direction, and Shift snaps it to 45 degrees.
The chalk comes in white, lime, yellow, pink and blue. Pick a colour before you draw; with Move picked, a colour repaints what you picked. The Aa button picks one of nine letterings for your text: Felt tip (the default), Marker, Chalk, Print, Round, Quick note, Pen, Clean or Code, and F steps to the next one.
How do you record with it?
SVG Lab does not record the video itself: capture the browser window with OBS Studio or any screen recorder you already use. What SVG Lab's Chalk Board gives the recording is a clean frame and fast moves:
- H hides the toolbar. A small tab stays at the top of the screen to bring it back, and H or Enter brings it back too.
- + Board starts a fresh board beside the one you are on, and Page Up and Page Down, or a presentation clicker, move between them.
- The Board button lists your boards to go to one or delete one, and becomes a dropdown once you have two or more.
- Clear empties the board you are on, and Ctrl+Z brings it back if you cleared too soon.
Can you bring in a picture or your own design?
Yes. Import on the board's small bar takes an SVG or a picture, and it appears exactly as it is, with no chalk texture and no colour changes, as one piece you cannot pick apart by accident. Only what you draw gets the chalk look. Artwork pasted in from the SVG Lab editor in near black turns chalk white, so it shows on the dark board.
Export on the same bar downloads the board you are on as an SVG, and the chalk texture is kept in the file.
