Every tool in this list calls itself an AI SVG generator, and they return three different things. A chatbot returns SVG markup as text: real path elements, guessed coordinates, no preview. An image generator returns a PNG, which is not a vector until a tracer converts it. A vector-native generator returns paths that are editable the moment they appear. Only the third kind gives you a file you can keep working on without a conversion step, and the difference shows up the first time you try to move one point.

Honest catch: AI Generate needs a free account, and it runs server-side, so your prompt and any reference image you attach are sent to SVG Lab's generation service. Generated geometry is also a starting point, not a finished logo: if you attach your own logo as a reference you get a reinterpretation, not a copy, and the curves usually need small corrections before export.
Recraft
Recraft's vector generator turns a text prompt into what its page calls a production-ready SVG: clean paths, editable layers, scalable to any size, powered by its V4.1 model (recraft.ai/vector-generator). It is built for logos, icon sets and illustrations, with integrations for Figma, Framer, Google Docs and Chrome. It also converts raster images to SVG.
Costs: the vector generator page says it is free to use, and Recraft sells paid plans and API access for heavier use (recraft.ai).
Honest catch: it is a hosted platform rather than a single-purpose tool, so generation happens on Recraft's servers and large batches belong on a paid plan. Check the pricing page before you build a workflow around it.
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator's Text to Vector Graphic generates vector graphics inside Illustrator itself: describe a scene, a subject or an icon and the feature creates editable vector artwork you refine with Illustrator's own tools (adobe.com). It is the right tool when the artwork already exists as pixels: a scanned logo, a screenshot, a client's old raster file.

ChatGPT and Claude
Chatbots are a real route: ask for an SVG and they write the markup in the chat window. For a simple icon it can be enough, and it needs no tool beyond the chat you are already in. The limits are structural: the coordinates are guessed rather than seen, so nothing checks that the wing does not cross the body, and there is no preview step. Our test of that route shows where it breaks.
Honest catch: markup with guessed coordinates is the least reliable starting point of the routes here, because you inherit whatever geometry the model imagined, with no canvas to correct it in.

- Export a test file and search it for
